Assassination of President Premadasa of Sri Lanka

On 1st May 1993, Sri Lanka's second President Ranasinghe Premadasa was killed in a suicide bombing at a May Day rally in Colombo, ending his four-year tenure that began in January 1989. The attack was carried out by Kulaweerasingham Weerakumar, alias Babu, a member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
